The Lázaro Galdiano Museum is hosting the latest exhibition by Iñigo Navarro, which explores a new territory somewhere between the conceptual and the formal, between the playful, the tender and the terrifying, from 26 September to 23 November in the Pardo Bazán Room. It is a unique and striking experience for spectators who shy away from preconceived ideas and stereotypes.

Taking A Way of Flying by Goya as his starting point, which is part of the Lázaro Galdiano Museum’s collection and is on display in the exhibition, Iñigo Navarro (Madrid, 1977) opens this exhibition, which is a tribute to painting, ‘the definitive medium’, as he likes to say, linking his work to the pictorial tradition of the Golden Age and to contemporary film, musical, literary and philosophical references.

The exhibition features a polychrome wooden sculpture on an oil-painted screen of a girl about to take flight, Lady Jet Lag, dressed by Marcos Luengo; two paintings of more than 2 metres that recreate hunting scenes in Baroque landscapes: Five Hundred Years of Walks in the Park and Two Intruders Outside Beirut; and a piece over 3 metres tall featuring a young woman flying over a river in which she is reflected. The exhibition is rounded off with a set of small pieces and a video.

Iñigo Navarro ventures into new territory somewhere between the conceptual and the formal, between the playful, the tender and the terrifying. Yet again, the artist moves away from preconceived ideas and stereotypes to present an exhibition that is a constant search for the tension between these elements and a unique spectator experience.
