The María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation presents an exhibition that brings together the most outstanding works of twentieth century art present in the Masaveu collections. It will contain one hundred paintings and sculptures that are highly representative of different movements and artists including Pablo Picasso, María Blanchard, Sorolla, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí and Eduardo Chillida.
Curated by María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco, Professor of Art History at the Complutense University of Madrid, the exhibition is divided into several sections that take visitors on a tour of Spanish art in the last century. A complete itinerary that includes works by different movements and artists such as Pablo Picasso, María Blanchard, Juan Gris, Sorolla, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Luis Fernández, Antonio López, Carmen Laffón, Antoni Tàpies, Manuel Millares, Eduardo Chillida, Esteban Vicente, Juan Genovés, Eusebio Sempere, Soledad Sevilla, Pablo Palazuelo, Cristina Iglesias, Juan Muñoz and Miquel Barceló, among others.
This set of works, previously unseen by members of the general public, are being presented thanks to the collection started in the 1960s by Pedro Masaveu Peterson and continued by Elías Masaveu. The exhibition shows mostly pieces from the Masaveu Collection but also contains works from the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation Collection and the personal collection of Fernando Masaveu, president of the foundation. Through this exhibition, visitors can discover the artistic tastes and lines of work that explain the exceptional endeavours of the Masaveu family to collect art over the years.
This exhibition also features a display case devoted to works on paper, which will be updated periodically due to conservation needs, showing successive collections of drawings and photographs.
