The Voices at the Real concert series will host a recital featuring the renowned Canadian bass-baritone, Gerald Finley, on 18 April at the Teatro Real. Considered to be one of the most admired voices on today’s opera scene, the musician will review great pieces from the lyrical and international artistic song repertoire.
Renowned for his vocal versatility and intense stage presence, he will give a recital at the Teatro Real in which he will perform a carefully selected repertoire of arias and lieder by composers such as Mozart, Schubert, Mahler or Britten, among others.
Born in Montreal, Finley has enjoyed a first-rate international career, performing in such prestigious theatres as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, the Vienna State Opera or the Salzburg Festival. His repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary music, among which his performances of Don Giovanni, Hans Sachs or Billy Budd stand out.
Having won several Grammy Awards and been named an Officer of the Order of Canada, Finley stands out for his warm voice, impeccable technique and ability to convey emotion and depth in every performance.
This recital is set to be a not-to-be-missed event for fans of classical music and opera, featuring scenes from Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, William Tell by Gioachino Rossini, Doctor Atomic by John Adams, Otello and Macbeth by Giuseppe Verdi and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg by Richard Wagner.
