El fluir del tiempo. Isabel Guerra

From 16 September to 19 October, the Serrería Belga Cultural Space will host an exhibition devoted to the career of the painter from Madrid, Isabel Guerra, known as the “painter of light”.  Organised by the Ibercaja Foundation, it brings together a selection of works that combine tradition and modernity and brings the artist back to Madrid after her last exhibition at the Casa de Vacas Cultural Centre in 2015.

El Fluir del Tiempo, curated by Desirée Orús, combines two elements that are prominent in the latest phase of the artist’s work. On one hand, classicism in her approach to painting, which can be seen in her use of light as a central element. On the other hand, modernity is evident in her treatment of textures, incorporation of abstract backgrounds and prominent use of colour. 

The unmistakeable realist style of Isabel Guerra (Madrid, 1947) features in this exhibition which reflects her most personal vision of her life and artistic evolution over the past twelve years.  The exhibition also includes Encounter with the Master on the Path of History and its Upheavals, which the artist painted as a tribute to Francisco de Goya for her exhibition at Ibercaja Foundation's Goya Museum in 2024.  Alongside her paintings, photographs of Madrid taken by the artist will also be on display as a nostalgic tribute to her native city.

Spectators will also be able to see the portrait of the recently deceased former President of Aragon, Javier Lambán, which is on display for the first time.  This portrait by Isabel Guerra was presented on 10 July 2025 and is on loan from the Regional Government of Aragon expressly for this exhibition.
