The Mapfre Foundation will host an exhibition that offers a full review of the career of the American photographer Edward Weston through more than 200 photographs, from 19 September to 18 January 2026 at Sala Recoletos.
Organised with the support of the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, Tucson, more than 200 photographs make up this exhibition which takes visitors on a journey through his entire career, from his pictorial beginnings to his consolidation as one of the great representatives of pure photography.
The photographer Edward Weston (Illinois, 1886 – California, 1958) played an essential role in the transformation of photography into an autonomous artistic language. He was the co-founder of the f/64 Group and championed a new aesthetic based on formal precision, simplicity and the poetic intensity of the image. Weston's work, which focused heavily on the American landscape and visual culture, showcases the transition from pictorialism towards pure photography, of which he was one of the main promoters.
