The LETSGO Company is producing a new immersive show of the classic musical, Cabaret, adapting the Kit Kat Klub with a contemporary approach. This production can be seen at the UMusic Hotel Teatro Albéniz from 18 September to 27 November with performances from Tuesday to Sunday.
Under the orders of the prestigious director, Federico Bellone (Ghost, Phantom of the Opera or Bailo, Bailo), the show includes a cast led by Abril Zamora, Amanda Digón and Pepe Nufrio, among other artists, and it is based on the original libretto by Joe Masteroff, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
The stage design of Cabaret completely redefines the theatre experience, transforming the theatre into an authentic cabaret and taking the audience to another era through its embracing setting.
It is set in Berlin (Germany) in the 1930s, just when Nazism is on the rise, where Sally Bowles is an English singer who works at the Kit Kat Klub cabaret and lives a hedonist life, trying to evade the growing political threat. Sally falls in love with Cliff Bradshaw, an American novelist who has come to Berlin to write a book. In turn, Fraülein Schneider is having a romance with Herr Schultz, a Jewish owner of a fruit shop, but their lives are threatened by political events.
The production shows how the characters try to survive emotionally in a world that is falling down all around, with an ironic tone and often a pessimistic atmosphere. Meanwhile, the Kit Kat Klub is turned into a space where the stars give in to fun as a way to escape the oppression, whilst Nazism begins to take over and changes the lives of all irreversibly.
Premièred on Broadway in 1966 and taken to the cinema in 1972 starring Liza Minnelli, Cabaret has left an indelible mark on musical theatre and this latest version promises to offer a unique experience that invites the audience to experience the story close-up.
