The eleventh edition of the Another Way Film Festival, devoted to sustainable development and the environment, is coming to Madrid from 14 to 19 October. The programme will screen a total of 39 films, including documentaries and short films on topics such as the climate crisis, energy and migration, activism and the seabed.
The festival seeks to inform, educate and raise awareness of the challenges posed by the climate crisis, as well as the regenerative potential in the hands of society. The festival also features parallel activities focusing on other artistic and cultural aspects related to sustainability and the triple balance: social, economic and environmental.
This latest 2025 edition will be held in several venues where spectators can watch screenings and participate in the activities Cineteca Madrid, Sala Equis, Institut Français, Casa de América, Eugenio Trías Municipal Public Library, Impact Hub Alameda, Another Huerto and Filmin.
In its eleventh edition, a selection of brave and socially conscious films has been prepared that honour the commitment of those who defend life in all of its forms. The programme includes stories that embrace diversity, challenge the status quo and invite spectators to act coherently and with hope.
Of the 17 documentaries presented, 16 will enter the competition: ten in the Official Section and six in the Impact Section, as one documentary is not participating in the competition. The documentaries come from countries such as Uganda, India, Japan, Canada, Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland and Spain.
Cineteca Madrid will also screen two sessions of short films: nine national and nine international films that will form part of the “Filming for Change” section, sponsored by Signus Ecovalor. The film programme is rounded off with four screenings that are not participating in the competition: two special sessions of Vivre Avec les Loups and La Belle Ville at the French Institute, a special session of De la Guerra Fría a la Guerra Verde (From the Cold War to the Green War) at Casa de América; and a children's matinee of the animated film Sauvages at Cineteca Madrid.
This edition’s opening film is How Deep Is Your Love, directed by Eleanor Mortimer. It is a documentary that has already been premièred at festivals such as Hot Docs (Canada) and CPH:DOX (Denmark) and takes spectators to the depths of the sea to reveal wonderful species in a world that is as fragile as it is fascinating, threatened by the increase in deep-sea mining.
This year’s Jury will be made up of Clara Lago, actress and activist (Ocho Apellidos Vascos, Primos), Mireia Gubern, Director of CaixaForum +; and Javier Godoy, content creator and film disseminator.
