In the centre of Madrid, in Plaza de Jacinto Benavente, we find one of the city's cultural icons: Teatro Calderón de Madrid.
The building is much admired by passers-by and its façade has displayed the names of many of the country's greatest performers. It was designed by architect Eduardo Sánchez Eznarriaga, while the windows in the hall are the work of Maumejean and the paintings in the auditorium are by Demetrio Monteserín. It occupies part of the site where the Trinitarios Convent previously stood.
A year after it opened in 1917 it was taken over by the Centro de Hijos de Madrid, and began to be known as the Teatro del Centro. In 1927 its ownership and name changed again. It became the property of the Duke of the Infantado and its name changed to Teatro Calderón.
As of August 2025, beon. Entertainment is responsible for the management and programming of the Teatro Calderón. This marks the beginning of a new era for the theatre, which will be run through an innovative and transformational vision by Dario Regattieri, CEO of the production company and the person directly responsible for this new direction. In addition to running the theatre, the production company will be responsible for its artistic programming, as well as the LYRICAL theatre programme and its terrace on the top floor of the building.
