Bank of Spain Exhibition Hall

Located in the headquarters of the Bank of Spain, alongside the Plaza de Cibeles, this exhibition hall host various temporary exhibitions in which different parts of the Bank of Spain Collection will be on display, making the historic-artistic heritage held by this institution available to citizens. Visits must be booked in advance.

The Bank of Spain Collection is made up of extensive artistic heritage accumulated over more than two centuries of history. It includes paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs, as well as various decorative art pieces and graphic works. The collection is divided into a classic section, which extends from the end of the 15th century to the end of the 19th century, and a contemporary section, consisting of works of Spanish art created mainly from the second half of the 20th century to the present day. The pieces corresponding to the first two decades of the 21st century are international in nature, focusing on European and Latin American art.

One of the main gems of the collection is the institutional gallery of portraits commissioned by the institution, where the portraits of Carlos III and other monarchs can be found, as well as directors and leading figures related to the Bank of Spain, many of which were painted by Goya or Salvador Maella, among others. In addition to portraits, the collection also has works by artists like Joaquín Sorolla or Ignacio Zuloaga, and is rounded off in the second half of the 20th century with diverse acquisitions, including some print collections by Goya.
