Crowned by the iconic, majestic glass dome of The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, which has been painstakingly restored pane by pane, this distinguished hotel’s new restaurant and bar serves the delectable culinary creations of Portuguese chef Nuno Matos, who has been delighting diners with exceptional fine cuisine for the past ten years at several Michelin-starred restaurants.
The space has been decorated by Lázaro Rosa-Violán, clearly taking inspiration from the roaring 20s, with tables arranged around a spectacular Jazz Age inspired bar. The light filtering through the dome creates different moods and ambiances.
The menu at La Cúpula offers timeless classic dishes, such as Wellington The Palace, alongside nods to the hotel's history, such as steak tartare, a firm favourite of Julio Camba, the journalist and writer who lived at the hotel for 12 years, and more avant-garde, modern creations like Galician-style octopus with creamy chilled pine nut soup, or Red prawn carpaccio with lemon, saffron and coriander.
The restaurant also offers a tapas menu that includes a selection of small plates such as Ham and cod croquettes, classic Gildas, Anchovies with seaweed butter, and toasted ibérico ham sandwiches (known locally as Bikini).
The carefully curated wine menu is also exceptional, featuring more than 250 wines.
And if you're looking to mix things up a little (pun intended), you could try one of their cocktails, from tried and tested classics to more daring, contemporary options, including a selection of signature cocktails that pay tribute to the hotel's legacy, such as 'Beautiful Dora' in honour of Dora Maar, the legendary lover and muse of Picasso, one of the hotel’s illustrious guests.
