The gastronomy of the canary Islands is the key feature of this restaurant, awarded a Michelin Star in the 2020 edition, which is run by the chef from Tenerife, Safe Cruz. With elaborate dishes based on ingredients from the Canary Islands and washed down with wines from the Canary Islands, Gofio offers creative and signature cuisine which tries to show off the culinary culture of the islands to the maximum.
The restaurant, initially located in the Literary Quarter, is now next to the Gran Vía. The new establishment, opened in July 2024, has more than 300 square metres, distributed over two floors with a capacity for 30 diners. Its decor, by the Plantea studio, is inspired by the architecture and colours of the landscape of the Canary Islands, as well as the work of the architect, César Manrique, so natural materials with different textures are used.
On the first floor of the establishment, there is a round table for twelve people surrounded by a curtain, which provides privacy, as well as show cooking and a bar to enjoy a cocktail while waiting. The second floor, designed as a cave, is home to an intimate and dark room that is reminiscent of the volcanic landscape of the islands, in which wood, marble, cane and clay are combined. The open kitchen enables diners to observe how the chef works.
Gofio’s gastronomic proposal consists of three menus: Gofio Express with a short duration (available only from Wednesday to Friday at midday); Maximum Canaries, to enjoy the excellence of Canarian cuisine; and Máxima Plus Canaries, for the more daring. The wine cellar is made up of Canarian wines, in addition to a dozen champagnes and wines similar to the Canarian ones (Madeira, Portugal, Jerez, Sicilia, etc.), all from small producers.
