With a view to offering non-traditional Mexican cuisine in an innovative gastronomic space, chef Roberto Ruiz has opened his latest restaurant on the top floor of the El Corte Inglés department store at No. 47 Calle Serrano, next to StreetXO owned by Dabiz Muñoz. They are both sharing the same space once again after the closure of El Corte Inglés at No. 52 Calle Serrano, in 2022, where he headed up Salón Cascabel.
Presented as "Roberto Ruiz's cuisine of cravings", in Can Chan Chan, the co-founder of the now defunct Punto MX (which earned the chef a Michelin star) has returned to haute cuisine albeit with an innovative and more casual approach to dining. The menu developed for this new restaurant is totally new and doesn’t include any recipes from the chef’s previous ventures. It uses Spanish ingredients in a creative way, creating authentic but non-traditional Mexican dishes. There is also a wide array of cocktails available.
It is located directly opposite StreetXO and accommodates around 100 diners between the main dining room, the terrace and the bar, as well as a private area. The interior decor was designed by María Fernández, who steers clear of the typical aesthetics of Mexican restaurants and instead takes her inspiration from pre-Hispanic geometry, using materials such as wood and stone tables.
